Are you curious about what a career as an Ultrasound Technologist looks like? What better way to learn about the position than hearing from one of our employees, Jodi.

Why did you become an Ultrasound Technologist?

“I’ve always had an interest in the medical field. I happened to fall in love with echocardiography and vascular ultrasound. These tests provide so much amazing diagnostic information to improve a patient’s health all with minimal to no pain. Honestly, it’s just so interesting to me to see inside a patient’s heart on my machine! I love puzzles and ultrasound is like solving a puzzle using different images and techniques to gather as much information possible to figure out the problem.”

What is your favorite part of the job?

“The patients. Our patients are so appreciative of our mobile service. We can scan our patients at nursing homes, doctor offices, urgent cares, and even their own homes. Many of our patients are in so much pain that getting to a hospital or another facility is very difficult and stressful. I love how we can quickly get to them. They’re always happy to have their tests done without all the hassle!”

Why did you choose Mobile Ultrasound over a traditional Ultrasound?

“Mobile ultrasound gave me the opportunity to become a more independent tech. We have a great team we can always go to for help or suggestions; but our work environment gives us the chance to become confident in our own work and skills. You need to be able to make what you feel is the best decision for a particular situation and be sound with the choice. It’s a useful and necessary trait for any efficient tech to posses. Mobile work also gives us a chance to meet a large variety of people in the healthcare field at different facilities we visit, from specialist doctors to physical therapist to wound care nurses. These people all offer something special to patient care, and enthusiastically give great insight and interesting information about their job.”

Do you have a favorite memory from working at Alpha 1?

“Old pictures! I love when patients show me pictures of themselves and family back in the “glory days” and light up when they tell me stories of how they met their husband or wife. They have beautiful black and white photos from their youth right next to a current picture of them surrounded by the large family they have created. It’s such a personal and sweet thing to see.”
